'Those who humbled the armed forces of Hitler and his allies at Stalingrad, Kursk, Leningrad, Berlin and elsewhere and who liberated central and eastern Europe from fascist tyranny deserve our undying gratitude', he declared.

Mr Renton condemned what he called US president George W. Bush's 'tour of the Baltic and Caucasian states to belittle the Soviet Union's achievements', pointing out that it was the United States and Britain who had killed millions of people in colonial wars since 1945.

'The results of the General Election demonstrate the need for Blair to go now and for the labour movement to take back control of the Labour Party', Mr Renton insisted.

'Britain's Communists reiterate its call for safeguards against postal voting fraud and for a more democratic voting system based on the principle of proportional representation', declared Mr Renton, who is a member of the party's executive committee.

The political committee expressed its appreciation for the vigorous campaign and slightly increased votes of the Communist Party's six candidates in the general election
