HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 9 (acn) Cuba described as very positive the results of its presentation at the Universal Periodic Review mechanism (EPR) of the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC).
The Cuban Permanent Mission to the United Nation Office in Geneva points out, in a communiqué to ACN news agency, that the Caribbean country took this exercise with full responsibility, convinced that a respectful and constructive dialogue is the only path in this matter.
The document reads that Cuba arrived to this review in favorable conditions after months of intense preparation and after an ample consultation process that involved governmental institutions, the Parliament and Cuban civil society’s organizations.
After 20 years of US-promoted unjust manipulation against Cuba on the human rights issue, the review’s results constitute an important victory of the Cuban people, the document reads and highlights that there was an overwhelming acknowledgement of the work and performance of Cuba in this topic.
It also explains that the report adopted by the HRC’s Working Group objectively reflects the review’s results, with the issuance of 89 suggestions, several of them sponsored by different delegations.
According to the Mission in Geneva, Cuba fully accepted fully 60 of those suggestions, while it will issue its comments on another 17 the formal adoption of the review by the HRC next June.
It also clarifies that a few suggestions were objected, a decision taken in strict accordance with the General Assembly’s 60/251 resolution, based on their incompatible nature with Cuba’s right to free determination.
The document further explains that the rejected suggestions reveal an unexplainable lack of information and ignorance on the rich and diverse Cuban reality.
Out of all 60 accepted suggestions, 57 were made by African, Asian, Latin American and the Caribbean countries, while the remaining three suggestions were issued by Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Holland.
The document reports that Cuba will study and accordingly apply those recommendations that it was not forced to reject, having as a goal reaching full justice.
