Immigrant workers protest no-match letters

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - 30SEPTEMBER07 - Immigrant workers workers and their supporters demonstrate in front of San Francisco City Hall and the Federal Building, the day before a hearing on an order barring implementation of the new regulation issued by the Bush administration, requiring Social Security to cooperate in firing millions of undocumented immigrants. A temporary restraining order was won by unions and immigrant rights groups earllier in September, and the hearing on October 1 will either withdraw that order or make it permanent. Demonstrators included Luz Dominguez, an immigrant worker fired from the Woodfin Suiites Hotel as a result of a no-match letter, and Mike Theriault, secretary-treasurer of the San Francisco Building Trades Council, one of the unions that filed the suit.

RICHMOND, CA - 30AUGUST07 - Ramon Cardona, director of Centro Latino Cuzcatlan, and Juana Flores, co-director of Mujeres Unidas y Activas, together with other immigrant workers and their supporters, present a letter to a representative of the Social Security Administration, protesting the proposed regulation issued by the Bush administration, requiring SSA to cooperate in firing millions of undocumented immigrants.
