Mr. Brown

Odd? Coincidence? I'm sure? Curious?

That the official killings of Michael Brown and John Brown, two Browns

Would spark in their own times such white focus on the lives of Black Americans

John Brown re-invigorated abolitionists in the fight for freedom from slavery

Michael Brown has awakened again Americans of good will to the fight

For freedom from official murder, harassment, official injustice

One of America's greatest intellectuals, the Black WEB DuBois said

John Brown was right, even wrote a book about it

Michael Brown unarmed on his knees already shot, hands in the air yelling Don't
Shoot

Victim of the growing racism and hatred in America reminds us all

Of the constant vigilance required of decent people to defeat the worst parts of
the human soul

Freedom and democracy aren't born into a people, they are learned,

Won through struggle, preserved through the struggle of generations

And through the sacrifice of people like two Browns.

  • John Brown, a contemporary of Frederick Douglass who visited Brown's home, commented that he discerned a "Holy Spirit" there, at the abode of he who sought a fighting freedom for his brothers and sisters-African Americans, in Christ.
The great Harriet Tubman would probably have had John Brown at her side at Harper's Ferry, had she not been seriously ill at the time of the raid.
As the great Du Bois, mentioned above, has written, John Brown's activities signaled in the famous chapter in his (Du Bois's ) Black Reconstruction, The Coming of the Lord, wherein former slaves were transformed into a great and General Strike of soldiers to aid the military, political and social victory of the abolitionists over slavers, and even more importantly, the victory of the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments of the United States Constitution, abolishing slavery, establishing universal citizenry and suffrage for males, and ushering in universal education for all citizenry.
Billions of thanks to Stewart Acuff, for this article as we fight for the universal rights of all to be secure from personal, public, and wanton murder at the hands of police authorities, with cover-ups for all peoples, including all besieged people of color.
