Momma used to say
Momma used to say life is nothing but a lot of bittersweet memoriesMe telling ol friend Si as we talked about the death of anotherBut she, his baby, fights on, like he believed and long livedLike his seed sown has grown into an ass kickin womanMomma looked back cause the future was just otherTrouble and death and heartache and no one canFix the future, it's gotta be worked for like a fatherFor his kids and fought for like the motherCause a woman will always bring more to the fight than a man
Macaroni and cheese
Everyday I ride the early trolley
With kids going to school.
Adults going to the first early
Or even second job already
Cause folks work when they can, a mule
Pullin a plow from can till caint
While they collect the wealth we create
With our work and lives that amount to work
But no real lives
I heard a mom the other night on the trolley
Tell her kids she's gonna cook , she
Will have a hot meal for them
So now the American Dream is hot macaroni and cheese
