We wait as worldwide
The global patient peasant waits
Squatting on our heels
Standing, sitting if we can
Some of us still smoking cigarettes
Tho more and more smoking is disallowed
We wait patiently, why
Because it is better than work
Because poor people control no schedules--
Not even their own
We wait because we have no choice
The bus will be here when it gets here
We stare or text or talk to ourselves
Not at all like the busy self-important
People at airport who wait loudly
Busily, angrily pissedoffedly
Talking loudly on their phones foolishly
Acting like theirs is the only schedule
In this wide world
Kockeying in line as if their seat
Is subject to loss to someone louder
Or more unpleasant or angrier
The peasant wide has waited long
He will wait longer still
Until his is the world.
