Winter brings her harshest side this year

We live in O degrees

A cold that will not be blocked or beaten

Today it snows and I watch

Super snowflakes big as July raindrops

In West Tennessee

But this ain't rain soakin a ground brown with thirst

This is a snow big enough to stop

This mighty city

And make our puny daily efforts

Seem as small as they are

Remember the earth and her climate

Call all the shots ultimately

Make all the big decisions

And you wonder if this winter

Is a frozen stop to our human hubris

A reminder of our real place in creation
