A valuable presentation from This weekend's Left Forum by Norman Markowitz

Below I have posted the video from You Tube of the fine panel on "Vito Marcantonio." one of the great figures in the U.S Congress in the 20th Century.  Marcantonio deserves to be both remembered and revered by all of us who stand for  the America he represented of Peace Before War, People Before Profits and Effective Freedom and Justice For All

  • Very interesting and enlightening it is that Marcantonio is in the 40s, advocating a position of forwarding the human and economic rights of people of color in Africa, India and China-alongside his activity for civil liberties, civil rights and economic rights for immigrants-especially Puerto Ricans, African Americans and Italians in the United States of America.
Is this brother Vito Marcantonio or brother W.E.B. Du Bois?
No wonder this Italian hero ends up as the star attorney of the beleaguered W. E. B. Du Bois, the "American Lenin" -as writer/analyst Vijay Prasad has dubbed Du Bois, during the infamous Second Red Scare.
As history has disposed it, Du Bois, in the context of a powerful world movement for human rights, with the excellent counsel of Marcantionio, was acquitted.
With this acquittal came the exoneration of a mighty battle-seen back in 1906 by the clairvoyant Du Bois-

"The battle for humanity is not lost or losing. The Slav is rising in his might, the yellow minions,
are testing their liberty, the Black Africans are writhing toward the light, and everywhere the laborer is opening the gates of opportunity and peace."

Today, with and in Forums like this, learning more of Du Bois and his associates and fellow warriors, like our "20th century Thaddeus Stevens"(according to the great Paul Robeson and pointed out in this excellent video)-there was the great Vito Marcantonio-Saint Vito.
