But I thought they were all the same...

Here's what Boehner and his anti-choice followers want to do:

  • Push the new “Stupak on Steroids” bill. This bill is even worse than the original Stupak ban in health reform!
  • Repeal the health-reform law.
  • Start up the failed, Bush-era "abstinence-only" programs.
  • Cut funding for family-planning programs.

  • And that Joel is just for openers.
Unfortunately, I know from responses to my blog posts that there are still many people on the left who don't learn and continue to blast the Democrats-- as if it is a great revelation that the Democrats don't stand for socialism Somehow these people think if they do think that attacking the Democrats will magically lead the tens of millions of working class and minority voters who vote for them either in self-defense or because they really have had positive experiences with progressive Democrats at the local level to abandon the Democrats. Then they will apparently and join a third party which doesn't exist, which would need a united trade union movement to support i(which at present appears to be impossible) in short, this reminds me of what in the French socialist movement one hundred and thirty years ago was called "impossiblism," which was actually a significant left force within the movement, vearing away from political action to radical trade union action and making demands which were not in the immediate situation possible. Except in France then there was a Socialist Party, faction ridden as it was, which had already elected scores of candidates to the National Assembly and was a growing nationally presence.
Actually, I think that the greatest danger from the Republicans is that they are in a position to do their most damage in killing off extended unemployment benefits, veterans benefits, social security benefits, federal employee rights, in the name of "fiscal conservatism" and using their House majority to strike at the regulation of business and Obama administration actions to help labor.
They can't repeal health care without the Senate, which they don't have, but what they can do is pass rotton bills which the Senate will reject, leading to committee compromises which Obama will then have to either go along with or veto. What he does and what we call upon him to do should depend on the substance of the compromises
