Chinese President Hu Jintao starts first state visit in Laos

(KPL) The General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and President of the People’s Republic of China Hu Jintao arrived here yesterday on the first official state visit from November 19 to 20, at the invitation of Lao People’s Revolutionary Party General Secretary and President Choummaly Sayasone.

The visiting President was welcomed at the Wattay International Airport by Dr Thongloun Sisoulith, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and a number of Lao senior officials.

Chinese President Hu Jintao and his delegation accompanied by high-ranking officials to Presidential Palace where he was warmly welcomed by President Choummaly Sayasone.

Two Presidents together with Lao and Chinese high-ranking official delegations held a bilateral meeting in which two sides informed achievements of socio-economic development of both nations and discussed prospect of cooperation ties between two countries.

Both sides shared views on transformation of their latest Party resolutions and discussed on regional and international issues in which they were interested in.

President Choummaly appreciated the achievements of Chinese Party and Government in the past 30 years through the implementation of open-door-policy leading to the constant economic growth contributing to the socialisation and modernisation of China.

President Choummaly believed that under the leadership of Chinese Communist Party, Chinese people would receive greater achievements.

President Choummaly expressed thank to Party, Government and people of China support and assistance to Laos, particularly to the national safeguard and construction.

President Choummaly confirmed to support “One Chinese” policy based on peaceful national unification.

President Hu Jintao appreciated the achievements of Lao people especially their socio-economic development since the new renovation policy of Laos was issued. and believed that under the leadership of Lao Revolutionary Party, Lao people would receive the greater achievements of the renovation in line with socialism.

The President Hu Jintao also thanked Party, Government and people of Laos support to the national construction of China, particularly in the “One Chinese” policy and peaceful national unification of Chinese people.

Two sides expressed satisfactions in the traditional solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between two parties and Lao and Chinese people, as well as the progress of bilateral cooperation at the end of this year. They strongly confirmed in making decision on bilateral cooperation of national defence and enhancement of fine traditional cooperation.

Both sides take into account visit exchange between high-ranking delegations of two countries. They agreed to promote economic, trade, investment cooperation based on mutual benefits in focussing on each potentials and priorities namely agriculture and forestry, mining and hydropower development.Chinese side insisted on its support and assistance to the development of Laos base on its real potentials.

Both sides highly valued the first official state visit of President Hu Jintao, which was the milestone of enhancement and contribution to friendship relation push forward to new level.

At the end of the meeting, Lao and Chinese governments signed some agreements especially economic and technical cooperation, debt clearance to Laos, providing soft loan by Chinese government to the Lao PDR, and agreement on anti illicit drug trafficking and drug abuse and intoxicated substances. The both sides also signed memorandum of understanding on public health cooperation.

At the same day, the President Hu Jintao and his delegations also took part in the inauguration ceremony of Chinese FM radio station in Vientiane.
