Jesse Jackson Describes US Blockade of Cuba as Obsolete

HAVANA, Cuba, May 13 (acn) Prominent US civil rights activist, Reverend Jesse Jackson,
described on Thursday the economic blockade imposed by his country on Cuba as antiquated and
obsolete.

 In statements to the Prensa Latina news agency in Doha, the capital of Qatar, he pointed out
that the Caribbean island is a sovereign state, a full member of the UN General Assembly and
of the international community.

The former US presidential candidate for the Democratic Party stressed that the top
international organization has condemned Washington’s policy towards the neighboring island,
and that he considers that the two states can develop bonds that can bring mutual benefits.

Jackson referred to the fact that the US government has been able to talk, deal and
establish relations with China, with a different ideology as compared to that of Washington,
and that it hasn’t done the same with Cuba.

The US Reverend attended the 11th edition of the Doha World Forum, which brought together
until May 11 leaders and top government employees from all regions of the planet, as well as
representatives of the business sector and the organized civil society, to exchange points of
view on the most important global problems.

This annual meeting focused on the topics "Democracy, Development and Free Trade" and the
600 participants from 80 nations discussed about freedom, equality, social justice and respect
to human rights, linked to the citizen rebellions that have taken place in several Arab
countries since December.
