A Statement of the CPBM to the opening of the negotiation between the Czech governments and USA about establishing of a radar military base at our territory

The Communists have been the only parliamentary political force in the Czech Republic which, already before the parliamentary elections – when other parties, including those which are now in the government, smokescreened their true positions – highlighted the real danger of a US military base or US radar station being set up at our territory. The Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia specifically warned of this issue in its election manifesto.

The CPBM demands that this important matter should be decided by a Referendum!

The CPBM already last year, presented a draft of a Constitutional Law about the Referendum in case of US anti-missile systems would be deployed in the territory of the Czech Republic: That draft will be presented again. The Referendum on this issue is vital, as it is a matter of the Czech Republic national interest. US military bases are under US jurisdiction; that means a Law Order of Czech Republic would not be valid inside of any base or station area. It is also necessary to underline that new missile bases do not notably increase the employment chances for local people, as the intentional right-wing propaganda says. This has been proved by past experience across the world.

The propaganda of both right-wing parties and the Social Democrats has tried to appease some of our citizens: those who are willing to accept that a radar station as 'less dangerous' or even a positive 'benefit' for our country. The opposite is true!

We draw the attention of the citizens of the Czech Republic to the fact: that the radar station is just as dangerous as an anti-missile base, because radar represents the eyes and ears of the missile systems.

It is typical of the Czech right-wing - which has attained a parliamentary majority only through the betrayal of two Social Democrat deputies that it betrays both Czech citizens and the sovereignty of our country!

The CPBM is still organizing a petition against establishing of either a foreign military base or a radar station for anti-missile defence at our territory. It calls upon all citizens to add their signatures to the 55,000 signatures that have already been collected.
