At the beginning of the Civil War, the Confederates were winning, too. Lincoln was at great risk of not being re-elected. Lincoln, like Obama on cutting the working class today, was significantly unprincipled on the key issue of that day, slavery or abolition. Lincoln had said during the election that if he could keep the country united by expanding slavery to the whole country he would to that(!), the most unprincipled statement possible on slavery, expand it to where it didn't currently exist! However, elected Lincoln was likely, not to abolish slavery in the South, but to prevent its expansion to the territories ( his whole original statement was that if he could keep the country united he would expand , contract or limit slavery). That would kill slavery, because slavery's technical base needed ever expanding territory to expand its profits ( See Marx's analysis of this dynamic to slavery in his articles on the US Civil War). So, the slavocratic South, like the tea Republicans, launched a pre-emptive strike against the newly elected Lincoln government. Obama forbidden act was to enact "socialized" medicine; and being an "immigrant" (not). Like the Confederates, the tea-Republican fascists are winning at this beginning. Will the working class rise up and stop the tea party Republicans as they stopped the Confederates?

No, they will not rise up. We are the most damned, I mean dumbed down and sleepy people I have ever had the pleasure of living with. I was posting on my blog and feeling alone as I preach to myself on life in the land of happiness and bank owned foreclosures. I post at a Yahoo site everyday also telling anybody who can understand and listen the truth about this place and the ruling empires. Most of the readers and posters are middle schoolers and high schoolers I guess. I'm hoping to tell them now before they grow up and become like the rest. :) But I still feel alone in this place. Damn, will I stop whining! So when I posted a pic from Sarajevo back during the shame, I found a few other sites which lead me here. I just wanted to stop by and growl a bit.
Our school textbooks have always said Lincoln was a saint and blah, blah, blah, and black people were saved because he was a white savior. It's just a another fabricated falsehood and now that I research all the things I have been told in my sleepy drugged life, I spread the truth as I find it whenever I can. Slaves were only freed to help the North which was not winning the war very well. It had nothing to do with humankind love or compassion. Presidents here are presidents here because they vow to uphold rules of engagement or they don't get into office. It's quite simple but if Americans want to continue to believe they are a democracy and out to save the world from tyranny and bad goatmeat sandwiches, then they can. As we continue to dissolve in the next few weeks, maybe everybody will loose what they hold so dear, money and comfort, and get their minds right. I doubt it and I may be dead and gone by that time.Posted by keith atkisson, 08/05/2011 7:28pm (13 years ago)

Comparing Obama to Lincoln? How absurd! Obama is an empty suit propped up by Wall Street and Big Business.

One point of importance to John Henry. There were leaders of his own Republican party, especially thad stevens, an abolitionist Republican who had gained great influence in the Republican party in the House of Representatives to advance a truly revolutionary anti-slavery progam to win the war. I agree that Lincoln's leadership was necessary. But one should also remember that to insure his election victory, he chose the pro union but viciously racist Tennessee Democrat, Andrew Johnson(which as it turned out, he did not have to do, since the shift in the war following Sherman's victories in Georgia pretty much assured him victory in the election) then enabled Johnson after Lincoln's assassination to sabotage the democratic program of reconstruction and among other things bury Stevens plan for the redistribution of millions of acres of land to the former slaves in the area of the deep South that came to be known as the "black belt."
