Some Questions for CEO Romney by Norman Markowitz

I saw the debate yesterday after it was over and after the self-fulfilling and self-congratulating commentaries by the "media", the pundits, etc.

If the "media is the message" if form and performance controls content, appearance determines reality(in short we should all think in terms of non dialectical idealism) then they both lost.  President Obama was unnecessarily defensive, and did not focus enough concretely on what Romney and his party will do if they gain complete control of the federal government.

But, in that world of appearance and performance, the Romney I saw was arrogant and cold(besides making false statements over and over again).  He treated the President of the United States like Donald Trump treats would be employees on that absurd  television program, The Apprentice.  In fact that seemed to be the Republican party strategy, to make the President of the United States into a job applicant and his opponent into the boss--a model for a corporate state and society, but not one for a democracy.

my first question to CEO Romney would be the question that Groucho Marx posed  to  an angry husband who caught him hiding in his wife's bedroom closet in the movie, Horsefeathers, "who are you going to believe, me or your own eyes"  The deficit, CEO Romney, was one trillion dollars when Ronald Reagan became President and over ten trillion when George  W Bush left office in the midst of the greatest economic crisis since the great depression--a deficit built on tax cuts and military spending, on paper profits as jobs were destroyed.  What would you have done CE0 Romney in 2009; pursue the "austerity" policy that you  were talking about at the Republican convention then and roll the dice to keep the deficit down, talking the chance of 20% and above unemployment and a general depression.

My second question, borrowed from the Republican Right's favorite congressional committee of all time, HUAC (turnabout is fair play) is this:  "Are you now, CEO Romney, or have you ever been a member of the Republican party."  By the way, CEO Romney, I would defend your right to answer that question on boIth the first and fifth amendment and not fire you from your job if you had or needed one for not answering.  Still, you spoke through most of the debate as if you never heard of the Republican party, of its position in support of a National union busting right to Work law, its cheerleading for state governments destroying public sector unions, its support for arresting and deporting undocumented workers while giving their employers new tax cuts. A wholly uninformed person might even conclude that  the spirit of some old liberal Republican, perhaps Nelson Rockefeller, had taken over your body.

Finally, CEO Romney, a third question, in the spirit of P.T. Barnum, whom historical legend tells us said "there is a sucker born every minute" and that was in the 19th century when the population of the world was less than a fifth of what it is today.   You said that you would as President create 12 million new jobs and well paying jobs.  Even though the President let you off the hook on that one, why should anyone believe you? Your experience in finance.?

You have made  tens of millions through Bain with  "investments" in mergers, buyouts,  etc, which have cost jobs, harmed pension funds,  and have been at the forefront of  three decades of parasitic casino capitalism that has cost millions of jobs.

  Well paying jobs?  For whom?

Yes,  well paying jobs were created on Wall Street and in its branch officess and in some areas like insurance,  sales of luxury goods , and of course abroad, but for every one of those, a great many more at MacDonald's and Wal-Mart and more and more unemployed workers ready to clean houses, mow lawns, and take those jobs.
