the bad socialism is the one that builds fences along its borders, and in the name of equality, the government controls everyone to the point of depriving them of their liberties. all classes should have the equal opportunity to make something of them. By protection one group or favoring one group over the other, corruption sets foot in the very roots of that kind of socialism. Stalin killed over 80 million and the Chinese killed about the same amount to surpess the liberties and free will of the people.
Michele Bachmann is hoping to build a fence along the border to Mexico. Fences no only keep people out, they also keep people in. Pretty scary stuff... which way are we heading?Posted by thomas, 10/16/2011 1:34am (13 years ago)

This video unfortunately shows how wrong the public conception of "socialism" is. O'Donnell equates socialism with intervention in the market, so industry conniving with government to protect their profits, as in the example of the pork producers, or Bachmann's family fam, equals "socialism."
That is in no way how Marx, utopian socialists, anarchists, or anybody else actually in the socialist tradition conceives of socialism.
Socialism means the working class taking power and running society democratically so that the economy works for everybody. That has nothing to do with the capitalist government working on behalf of monied interests.Posted by D. Bester, 06/25/2011 3:40pm (13 years ago)
