TAKE ACTION NOW TO STOP MIERS

From left and right, opposition to the nomination of Harriet Miers to replace Sandra Day O'Connor is growing. Most observers believe the Miers pick is Bush cronyism. Bush even bragged that he chose Miers because she is not a judge.

Progressive critics of Bush's choice call for the Democrats to take leadership in blocking Miers and demanding a consensus nominee that accurately reflects our values and will defend the Constitution.

Urge Congressional Support for Troop Withdrawal

Representatives Neil Abercrombie (D-HI) and Walter Jones (R-NC) have introduced a resolution called 'Homeward Bound,' requiring the President to develop and implement a plan for the withdrawal of American troops from Iraq beginning no later than October 1, 2006. This bipartisan resolution demonstrates the growing realization on both sides of the aisle that without a plan for withdrawal, America is stuck in a deadly quagmire.

Restore Wage Protections to Hurricane-affected region

President Bush is using the Katrina tragedy to opportunistically push a radical agenda of tax cuts for the wealthy, new big-oil give-aways, school vouchers, and an array of other right wing nostrums. But Americans are getting wise to how President Bush and his party operate. Tom DeLay was just indicted for illegally funneling corporate money to benefit GOP politicians. And, large majorities have turned against Bush on his handling of both the Katrina fiasco and the ongoing mess in Iraq

And now, we have an opportunity to deal the extreme right-wing another blow by overturning the President's decree that cut wages for Katrina victims hired to rebuild their shattered communities.

Thanks in part to pressure from our supporters– who responded to an urgent email last week – every single Democrat and Independent in the House of Representatives has united behind a bill to overturn the President's callous wage-cutting decree. Just 14 Republicans are needed to endorse this bill – to show that a clear majority of House Members want a vote to restore fair wages for Gulf Coast reconstruction workers.

Please, sign the petition that Campaign for America's Future will send to every single Republican member of Congress asking them to co-sponsor and bring to vote the 'Fair Wages for Hurricane Victims Act.'

Demand Prosecution of Illegal 'Covert Propaganda'
Last week, an official government investigation determined that the Bush Administration broke the law when it used taxpayer dollars to hire fake journalists like Armstrong Williams to promote its political agenda.

In a report released on Sept. 30, the Government Accountability Office found that the Department of Education illegally used taxpayer dollars to fund a covert propaganda campaign, funneling money to Williams to tout Bush's education policies in advance of the 2004 elections. The investigation also dug up other instances of abuse, including a previously undisclosed case in which the Bush administration commissioned a newspaper article that praised the White House's role in promoting science education. But these abuses may just be the tip of the iceberg.

Sign a letter to Congress demanding a full investigation and prosecution of this illegal act.
